Jesus made it clear that the only way to have a relationship with the Father was through him. In order to really know God, we must develop a true and intimate relationship with the His son, Jesus. Many recognize this truth but lack a clear understanding of how they can really “know” Jesus Christ. For centuries Christians have attempted to know him in variety of ways and through a myriad of practices. In this teaching Dan Gallagher solidly demonstrates how we can “know Christ” through three unmistakable ways; the Word of God, the Body of Christ, and through personal spiritual practices. Knowing Jesus is the key to growing in devotion to him and to the Father. We believe this teaching will greatly enhance your spiritual growth by helping you on your journey of growing closer to Christ.

Water baptism has been a subject of debate ever since the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2) when Jesus first poured out the gift of holy spirit upon those people who had faith in him. For the Jews, washing and baptism ceremonies started when the Law was given to Moses, and in many cases, such as in the cleansing of a leper, the full cleansing ceremony involved animal sacrifice.

When Nebuchadnezzar burned the Temple down in 586 BC and carried the Jews away from Israel, baptismal ceremonies took on a new importance, and continued to grow in importance even after the Temple was rebuilt. John and Jesus both baptized people in water (although Jesus’ disciples did the actual baptism). However, like animal sacrifice, water baptism was symbolic, and pointed to a greater reality. Animal sacrifice pointed to the greater reality of Jesus’ sacrifice of himself, and water baptism pointed to the greater reality of the baptism in holy spirit, which the Old Testament prophets as well as John and Jesus foretold.

When the reality of the baptism of the holy spirit came on Pentecost, water baptism was no longer needed as a symbol, and could have stopped. This is why Ephesians 4:5 says there is only “one baptism” for the Church. However, it was such a well established tradition that it has continued to this day. In this teaching, John Schoenheit covers the history and tradition of water baptism, and shows why the “one baptism” for the Christian Church is in holy spirit, not water.

The Bible says God is holy, righteous, and loving. However, there are Scriptures that make God seem unloving and unlovable, and Romans chapter 9 is one such section of Scripture. For example, Romans 9:11-13 seems to say that God loved Jacob and hated Esau before the two boys were even born. Then verse 18 says God hardens those people whom He wants to harden, and verses 21 and 22 seem to say God is a potter who makes people like He wants them, but then pours His wrath out on those who are “prepared for destruction.” Some Christians have no problem with this, believing that it is God’s right as Creator to do whatever He wants. To many others, however, Romans 9 has been confusing at best and has even turned some people away from God. In this 90 minute teaching, John Schoenheit employs his more than forty years of researching the Bible to interpret Romans 9. He shows that if we properly understand the Old Testament examples and quotations, and the use of Semitic idioms, and we translate the Greek text correctly, Romans 9 really teaches that God is loving, merciful, and patient in accomplishing His purposes. We can also see that God works with people according to the freewill choices they make, responding and adjusting as people choose to obey or disobey Him.

God is love. However, there are things God is said to do in the Bible that seem to be clearly unloving. For example, even though God wanted the Israelites to go free from Egypt, the Bible says God hardened Pharaoh’s heart so he would not let Israel go (Exod. 9:12). The answer to many difficult verses in the Bible in which God is said to do something that seems against His nature is that the Semitic languages, such as the Hebrew of the Old Testament, often use an active verb (like “hardened”) idiomatically. When God does something that elicits a response from people, God is often idiomatically said to actually produce the response. In the case of Pharaoh, God righteously asked Pharaoh to let Israel go, and in response Pharaoh hardened his heart, but idiomatically in the Semitic languages God is said to be the one to do the hardening. In this teaching, John Schoenheit explains the “Idiom of Permission” simply but thoroughly, revealing that God is the righteous and loving God we know Him to be.

The Bible is the source of Christian doctrine and practice, and because of that it is vital that Christians are able to read it and understand what it is saying. Yet the Bible uses language that can be confusing to Christians. The language was not confusing to the Greeks, who spoke the language of the New Testament and knew its idioms. One of the idioms of the Greek New Testament that confuses Christians is the use of the word "in" (sometimes translated "into" in our English Bibles) to describe relationships. For example, 1 Corinthians 15:22 says, "For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive." We might expand that for clarity in English to say, "In connection with Adam we all die, and in connection with Christ we will all be made alive." Some contexts are easier for us to grasp than others, for example, for us to be "baptized into (in) Christ" or "baptized into (in) his death" (Rom. 6:3) are more difficult to understand than "in Adam," but we need to know what those verses are saying. Since the relationship described by the word "in" can vary from a loose relation to a very tight one, even a union, we must discover the exact nature of the relationship by reading the context. In this teaching, John Schoenheit covers the meaning of New Testament phrases that use "in" (or "into"), and gives very helpful explanations and translations of what some of the important verses that use these phrases mean.

It has never been really too difficult to put a teaching together from the Bible that confronts a variety of sinful actions and attitudes. In this teaching, rather than confront sin, Dan Gallagher goes directly to the root of the sin problem and examines what it means to “commit our way to the Lord” (Psalm 37:4). Dan demonstrates that being committed to God is, in the Hebraic mindset, being “rolled up” with the Father, which is well illustrated by the way that the red and white parts of the candy cane are twisted together to become one. We become committed to God when our words and actions demonstrate obedience to Him. We must be honest about our sin, calling it truthfully what it is, then confessing it, repenting of it, and once again moving forward. In this teaching you will also see how increasing in our commitment to God happens when we obey the leadings of the gift of holy spirit in each of us as it nudges us to do His will. We believe you will enjoy the fresh perspectives that this teaching gives as you learn to “roll yourself up in God.”

At the time of the new birth a person’s sins are charged to Christ, and in return Christ’s righteousness is credited to the believer. This is what we commonly refer to as the Great Exchange. One of the most important aspects of the Great Exchange is that the believer is now supposed to live the Exchanged Life. In this teaching Dan Gallagher demonstrates how the Exchanged Life is really the power base of Christian living, because when we live the Exchanged Life we allow Christ to live through us. Yet we often leave Him on the back burner. We tend to make time in our daily lives for people and other things, but how often do we make room in our lives for God? In this teaching, Cara Hanson identifies an 8-step plan to remove the clutter from our hearts so that we will minimize distractions and be able to focus on God. Cara encourages us to order our thoughts on God, so we will be better equipped in the spiritual battle. Despite clear information about them in the Bible, traditions about the Magi, who were astronomers, have clouded who they were and when they came to Bethlehem. This teaching about the Magi opens many of the great truths and wonderful things the Bible says about these men. Their ancient ancestors had been trained by Daniel the prophet. They were Gentiles, but they were looking for a Redeemer, and knew he would come from Judah. They came to Bethlehem more than a year after Jesus was born, so they were not at the birth of Christ like the shepherds were. They never followed a star to find the Messiah; they went to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, asked where he was, and were told, “Bethlehem,” so they went there. Also, there would have been many more than three of them. There is value in truth, and knowing the truth about these wonderful men helps us to understand why God would spend a whole chapter telling us about them.

Grace is unmerited divine favor, a gift from God that we did not earn and did not deserve. What we may not be as familiar with, however, is that once we receive God's grace and become His children, we have an obligation to Him, and He states that very clearly in His Word.

For example, we have a moral obligation to God to love Him and be thankful for, and pray for, our spiritual family. We also have a moral obligation to grow in the Christian faith. There are other obligations we have to God as well. Fulfilling our obligation to God is not a pre-requisite for, nor does it earn, grace, but it is part of our obedience to God.

The book of Romans is the great doctrinal treatise that forms the foundation of the Christian faith and clearly sets forth that salvation comes by faith in Jesus Christ. Many people are overburdened by sin because they erroneously think it puts their salvation in doubt. Christians who believe in Christ think that if they commit sin, then God will not allow them to live forever. The New Testament teaches a great message of blessing and hope that when a person has faith in Christ, he or she is righteous in the eyes of God, that is, he or she has "right standing" with God.

To be righteous in God's sight was the great desire of God's people in the Old Testament, and Deuteronomy 6:25 says that if the Jews were careful to obey all the Law they would be righteous. Because "righteousness" was so important to the Jews and such a big part of the Old Testament, Romans couches what believers have from God as "righteousness," instead of the more well-known word, "salvation." Now, after the death and resurrection of Christ, people are righteous in God's sight by faith in Christ alone. In this teaching, John Schoenheit covers what “righteousness” is, how it was obtained during Old Testament times, how it is obtained today, how it relates to "salvation," and why so many Christians ignore the testimony of Romans and seek right standing with God by trying to do good works.

Have you gotten in a line, and then patiently waited as you slowly crept forward towards the front, only to suddenly realize, “I’m in the wrong line!” In this teaching, “Get in the Right Line,” Mike Patten uses a very clear idea of a line to teach about each Christian’s need to make sure that we are doing what Christ wants us to do. By examining the eleventh chapter of Matthew’s gospel, Mike demonstrates what is involved in Jesus’ statement, “…no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him” (Matt. 11:27b). <itunes:summary>Have you gotten in a line, and then patiently waited as you slowly crept forward towards the front, only to suddenly realize, “I’m in the wrong line!” In this teaching, “Get in the Right Line,” Mike Patten uses a very clear idea of a line to teach about each Christian’s need to make sure that we are doing what Christ wants us to do. By examining the eleventh chapter of Matthew’s gospel, Mike demonstrates what is involved in Jesus’ statement, “…no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him” (Matt. 11:27b).

For almost 2 millennia, the voice of women has been stifled in the Church. Interestingly, this has been in large part due to just two references in the New Testament: 1 Timothy 2:12 and 1 Corinthians 14:34 and 35. Something about these three verses, however, is that the way they have been translated and handled in the Church is in glaring contradiction to the flow and feel of the rest of the New Testament about women. Right from the start of the Christian Church on the Day of Pentecost, both men and women received holy spirit (Acts 2:17, 18). Women served in the Church and were speaking up in the meetings. There were simple churches in their homes, and there is much evidence that they taught the Word of God.

While 1 Timothy 2:12 has been mistranslated and misunderstood, there are a growing number of scholars who have concluded that 1 Corinthians 14:34 and 35 were added to the Bible by an early scribe, and that it was not part of Paul’s original letter to the Corinthians. In this teaching, John Schoenheit goes through some of the reasons many scholars now conclude that these verses were added to the text, and also speaks about how we should understand and apply them if they were part of the original text.

Scripture reveals that Jesus got hungry, tired, and had family problems just as we do, yet he singularly focused on God and lived and loved like no other person before or since.

One of Jesus' last commands before his ascension was to "go make disciples of all nations." Clearly God's and Jesus' vision is for each Christian to become a strong, mature believer. Dave Hanson explores the goal in Ephesians 4:13, that we be unified and "become mature." This maturity is exemplified by love, meaning that all Christians should strive to love to the point of reaching out and helping others. Dave shows the context of Ephesians 4:13 with the equipping ministries of Verse 11 working to "prepare" or "perfect" the saints to help all of us get involved as the subsequent verses indicate.

The Christian world is very confused about giving and tithing. Many Christians believe that God commands them to tithe, and some believe that if a person does not tithe he will be cursed by God. This causes guilt, shame, and even fear among Christians who do not tithe. In this teaching, John Schoenheit opens the Word of God and shows that, while each person should give generously, Christians are not commanded to tithe. The Word of God shows that the tithe was instituted by God as a part of the Mosaic Law, so that the Levites and Priests, who could not own land, would be provided for.

Before the Law God did not command a tithe, and the command to tithe ended when the Church started, just like the Temple, sacrifices, and priestly system ended. However, the Word of God says that Christians should give their very lives as living sacrifices and that certainly includes giving; giving time, material goods, and money. Although some people's situation may be such that they cannot give ten percent to the work of God, many people can and should give more than that. This teaching not only covers giving and tithing, but also provides biblical information about what to give and where Christians should give.

The Giver and The Gift: A Study of the Holy Spirit

The doctrine of the Trinity teaches that "the Holy Spirit" is the Third Person in the Godhead. This has led to people misreading and misunderstanding many Scriptures about the wonderful gift of God, the holy spirit. This teaching, "The Giver and the Gift," shows that because God is holy and God is spirit, one of the names for God is "the Holy Spirit." Similarly, God is a solid foundation and place of shelter so one of His names is "the Rock" (Ps. 28:1). No one thinks there is another God called "Rock," so everyone knows that is just another name for God, and people should understand the same thing about God when He is called "the Holy Spirit." When God gave gifts to mankind, one of the gifts He gave was the gift of His very nature, which is holy and spirit, and therefore called "holy spirit."

Because both God the Giver and the gift God gives have the same name, they are often confused. After differentiating between the Giver and the gift, this teaching shows that the holy spirit God gave in Old Testament times was different from the gift of holy spirit He gives to Christians. The gift is still holy and still spirit, so the name is the same, but a study of its characteristics shows that it is a different gift. If we are going to understand the Bible, and what God has done for us as Christians, it is vital that we understand what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit, both the Giver and the gift.

Certainly it must be a wonderful place, but it is probably not like we imagine it to be. In this teaching John Schoenheit opens the Word of God and examines the scriptures which say that the "whole creation," not just earth, is groaning in pain. Although the doctrine that God is in control is comforting to many people and therefore popular, we believe the truth declared in this teaching will help set people free from the harmful effects of this popular Christian misunderstanding.</itunes:summary>

Like a Swiss Army knife with a number of possible functions, the gift of holy spirit has nine manifestations, or ways it can be utilized. One of these manifestations is speaking in tongues, and another is the interpretation of tongues. Never does God's Word call either of these "gifts," but rather "manifestations" of the one gift of holy spirit. The teaching explains why speaking in tongues is praise, worship and thanksgiving directed to God, and that thus the interpretation of tongues must, of course, be the same thing. The teaching concludes by showing you how developing a "praise vocabulary" makes you more adept at excelling in edifying the Body of Christ by speaking in tongues and interpreting in a Christian fellowship.

Traditionally, much focus has been placed upon the equipping ministries of Ephesians 4:11 (the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, and Teacher). In this teaching Dan Gallagher provides new insights and a fresh perspective on the various gifts listed in Romans 12 (the Perceiver, Server, Teacher, Encourager, Giver, Leader, and Mercy Giver).
The Parable of the Sower of Luke 8 is considered by many to be one of the most well known and perhaps the most important parable Jesus spoke. Generally this parable is approached from the perspective of evangelism. However, in this teaching, Mike Patten explores its meaning and how it relates to the hearts of all men. Jesus often spoke in parables, and for us, just like the disciples, “the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God” will be revealed to those who aggressively inquire of Jesus. The parable includes a stern warning to “consider carefully how you listen,” as Jesus reveals four conditions of the heart; the hard-hearted, half-hearted, shallow-hearted, and good-hearted. This teaching concludes with an exhortation to all that the “noble and good-hearted who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering, produce a crop.”

By Dan Gallagher and John Schoenheit

Far too often Christians fail to understand the significant role a person’s character plays in life both now, and as the basis for rewards at the Judgment. God is so concerned about our character that he has filled His Word with character instructions and lessons.

In this teaching Dan Gallagher and John Schoenheit together define character, demonstrate its value, and show why God is concerned about our character. They also illustrate that everyone’s character is under their control, and if we do not like the way we are, we can change. Every Christian has a gifting given by God, but God does not reward us because of our gifts. He rewards us based on what we have done with our gifts, which will depend on our character. In closing, John and Dan provide 4 powerful steps to evaluating and changing our character.

Everyone’s life is filled with lots of choices to make. Unfortunately, we often make the wrong choice, which can range from a simple misstep to serious sin. No matter what type of error we make, God has laid out a path that leads us from those times of darkness back to His light. In this teaching, Dan Gallagher explores the roles of reproof, remorse (godly sorrow or worldly sorrow), and repentance, and teaches about their relationship to living in the redemptive reality that God has called us to.

Dan explains the differences between the judicial (legal) and the emotional concepts of conviction and condemnation, and sets forth the biblical understanding of freedom, liberty, and character. When we improperly relate to our sin we move toward one of two extremes, having a seared conscience on the one hand (hardheartedness), or hopelessness (condemnation) on the other. When we are convicted of our wrongdoing without being condemned, we are able to grow past our mistakes both emotionally and spiritually, and live in the full light of God’s high calling.

Prayer Matters

God wants Christians to pray. He urges, even commands us over and over, to pray. We are to pray throughout the day about everything that is happening around us. “Be…faithful in prayer” (Rom. 12:12); “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Eph. 6:18); “…in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Phil. 4:6); “Devote yourselves to prayer…” (Col. 4:2); “Pray continually” (1 Thess. 5:17). God has given us these clear commands, so how did it happen that the average Christian may only pray before a meal, or in an emergency or difficult situation, or perhaps to start a meeting?

In this teaching, John Schoenheit examines how the doctrine that “God is in control” and “everything that happens is God’s will” has undermined prayer. The earth is a war zone, and when we pray we participate in the spiritual battle. Our prayers speak into existence the legal permission for God to act in our lives. Prayer takes time and energy, but it is vital if we are going to live blessed lives, so let’s get started immediately in praying throughout the day.
